dc.description.abstractenThe article presents the student roundtable discussion titled «100th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between Ukraine and Finland» held in Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute on December 10, 2018. The history department at the university co-organized this seminar. At the panel discussion, students spoke on the establishment of diplomatic and trade relations between Ukraine and Finland, an activity of the Ukrainian embassy in Finland, compared life and views of Ukrainian and Finnish statesmen - Pavlo Skoropadsky and Gustaf Mannerheim respectively. Special attention was paid to the activity of 1918-1919 Finnish charge d’affairs in Kyiv Herman Gummerus, who made a huge contribution to the establishment of diplomatic relations between Finland and Ukraine. Participants reviewed the memoirs of the Finnish diplomat in which he described relations between Finland and Ukraine, events in Ukraine in the period of the Ukrainian State of Skoropadsky and Ukrainian People’s Republic of Directory, daily life in Kyiv and expressed his own opinion about Ukrainian politicians and statesmen of that time. In conclusion, the roundtable discussion provided particapants with an opportunity to improve their competence to prepare and deliver an in-depth report, make a concise statement and take part in a debate.uk
