They allow for a significant improvement in the mechanical characteristics of steel with a determined composition. Generally, a heat treatment does not alter the chemical composition of the alloy but brings about the following modifications: - Constitution (state of carbon and allotropic form of iron). - Structure (grain size and distribution of constituents). - Mechanical properties.
