Main articulation differences of Ukrainian and British English standart accents are outlined. Among them are differential and integral items of existing and non-existing in the Ukrainian language phonemes and allophones compared to the English ones. V.The report describes the principles of contrastive studies of different languages at the level of phonology and suggests the methods of comparison of their phonological systems taking into account the hierarchy of distinctive features of phonemes. Based on ideal language type we develop also a step-by-step guide for the description of the phonological pecularities in the Ukrainian and German.
