The paper presents the study of phonetic features within Pittsburgh Speech (Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, USA). It covers phonetic level as for the effects of extra-linguistic factors (gender and ethnic affiliation, social status, age) and demonstrates the tight interrelation between the speakers’ self-identification and the use of the unique Pittsburgh Speech within everyday life communication.
