Elimination of antibiotics by photocatalytic methods
(КПІ ім. Ігоря Сікорського; ТОВ «Українська водна спілка», 2021) Kutuzova, Anastasiya; Dontsova, Tetiana; Davydova, Maryna
Antibiotics have been found in water bodies of different origin around the world, including natural waters. The presence of antibiotics in natural waters is already an important environmental problem, as they pose a potential threat to the environment. Analysis of the literature shows that photocatalytic methods are considered to be more promising than biological methods and adsorption processes for the treatment of water bodies contaminated with antibiotics and other pharmaceuticals. The aim of this study was to determine the efficiency of antibiotics removal (ciprofloxacin, sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) by photocatalytic methods over TiO2 photocatalyst modified with yttrium oxide. For this purpose, a commercial sample of TiO2 P25 (Evonik) was modified, which was further characterized by X-ray diffraction and X-ray fluorescence analysis methods. The obtained data indicate the presence of yttrium in commercial P25 sample after modification. Studies on the removal of antibiotics from aqueous solutions by photocatalytic methods were carried out in three ways: employing modified photocatalyst; combination of photocatalyst and hydrogen peroxide, and the combination of photocatalyst with hydrogen peroxide and ozone. The results of research demonstrate high efficiency of photocatalytic methods in the oxidation of antibiotics in aqueous solutions, among which the greatest oxidation is achieved using the combination of heterogeneous photocatalyst, hydrogen peroxide and ozone.

Natural aluminosilicates in water purification technologies: a short review
(КПІ ім. Ігоря Сікорського ; ТОВ «Українська водна спілка», 2024) Bogdan, Ludmila; Hutsul, Khrystyna; Kurylenko, Viktor; Yanushevska, Olena; Dontsova, Tetiana
The review is devoted to the peculiarities of using natural aluminosilicates, in particular bentonites and zeolites, in water treatment technologies. A description of the general structure of clay materials, their chemical composition, characteristics of their building frameworks, and varieties of forms found in nature is given. Emphasis is placed on the adsorption characteristics of bentonite, which is the most common type of clay, including in Ukraine. In the description of natural zeolites, attention is paid to their spatial structure, namely the ratio of Si:Al in their natural modifications, chemical composition, and structural features that ensure the use of zeolites as adsorbents and catalysts. The expediency of using natural aluminosilicates in adsorption, ion exchange, and photocatalytic processes is shown in the examples of the extraction and degradation of various organic compounds, including petroleum products, phenols, and dyes, etc. Emphasis is placed on the importance of the ion exchange capacity of natural bentonites and zeolites as a tool for their modification and activation, significantly improving their performance in water treatment technologies. The effective properties of natural aluminosilicates, such as the active surface area, its acid-base properties, and non-toxicity, are analysed, which indicates their high potential as a reliable potential alternative to more expensive synthetic materials. Thus, the prospects for creating competitive adsorbents and catalysts based on natural aluminosilicates for use in “green” water treatment concepts have been outlined.

Prospects for using 3d printing to form ceramic membranes: a brief review
(КПІ ім. Ігоря Сікорського; ТОВ «Українська водна спілка», 2024) Diachenko, Anastasiia; Hutsul, Khrystyna; Dontsova, Tetiana
The article presents a discussion of the potential applications of 3D printing in the formation of ceramic membranes. In recent years, additive technologies for ceramic materials have become a prominent area of research, suggesting that they can be effectively employed to design and produce hierarchical porous ceramic structures, combining flexible design and advanced approaches to their formation. The objective of this paper is to analyse the potential of additive technologies for the production of ceramic membranes, identify the most promising technologies, and provide a comprehensive evaluation of their achievements, challenges, and limitations. The present study considers seven principal additive manufacturing processes, which are based on the utilization of diverse 3D printing technologies. It is demonstrated that the most promising technologies for the manufacture of ceramic membranes are currently Vat Photopolymerisation, which enables the production of products with complex geometry and high accuracy, and those that utilize Powder Bed Fusion processes, which ensures the mechanical strength and density of ceramic products. The article presents an analysis of the printing parameters of Stereolithography, Liquid Crystal Display and Selective Laser Sintering technologies, and their potential for the production of ceramic products in general and membranes in particular. The problems and challenges of creating ceramic membranes by 3D printing, such as optimization of the composition of ceramic suspensions and post-processing of products, are noted. Possible ways to solve them are discussed, including the improvement of printing materials and technological processes. The prospects for the use of the obtained ceramic membranes in various industries are also considered. The directions of further research aimed at improving additive technologies for printing ceramic membranes and expanding their application in industry are identified.
