    Design and Technological Support for the Production of the "Gear housing" Part

    This paper offers a thorough and methodical approach to creating a complete manufacturing process plan for a gear housing component made of grey cast iron (CЧ15 / EN-GJL-150). A key component of a gearbox assembly, the gear housing is essential in guaranteeing the correct positioning, alignment, and protection of internal mechanical components including gears, shafts, and bearings. Guiding the choice of sand casting as the most appropriate base manufacturing method, the production volume, projected at 5,000 units per year, calls for a trade-off between cost-effectiveness and great accuracy. The material's good castability, vibration damping qualities, and capacity to reach the required dimensional accuracy for medium production volumes all support the choice of sand casting. In addition, the report explores the dominant drivers of process design such as the functional needs of the part, grey cast iron material aspects, degree of geometric complexity, machining needs among others. The assessment of casting tolerances, machining allowances, and datum selection conforms to consistent industry standards. Besides, the report details the whole flow process from casting to finishing cutting to produce necessary surface finishes, dimensional precision, and geometric properties. Cost effective solutions are sought for bearing in mind that all technical performance and compliance requirements should be met. Through the achievements of design, choice of material and process elements, the final manufacturing plan ensures that quality is highly consistent, and that production takes place in an efficient manner.
