dc.description.abstractotherThis paper addresses the issue of the origin of gratitude in communication viewed from different perspectives. Gratitude is considered a universal phenomenon typical of all cultures and communities. It is shown that gratitude is an integral characteristic of human beings that can influence cognitive abilities, life satisfaction, and well-being in general. The utterance of gratitude is actualised in speech when an individual acknowledges a favour or a desired outcome that comes from an external source, e.g. another individual or God, and wishes to express appreciation or repay for the benefit received.
