dc.description.abstractIn the present paper an attempt has been made to highlight the importance of phonology in linguistic studies. By way of analising phonemes, allophones, and phonological rules as well as their role in the sound system of a language teaching and learning, it is pointed out that their understanding can enable the language learners to find out and differentiate lexical units with similar language sounds but having different meanings.
