dc.description.abstractenThe article provides a historiographical analysis of the ideology and the interpretations of the political activities of the Independent Jewish Workers Party (IJWP) in the works of Soviet scientists. The author analyzes the sources and methodological basis of various historiographical trends and explains the transformation of the party’s role interpretations in the all-Russian revolutionary movement. The author offers the novel periodization of the historiographical process. The first stage (the early 1920’s — 1933) is characterized by numerous publications of documents on the activities of the IJWP and the memoirs of its opponents from the Bund. Without denying the decisive role of the political police in the party’s formation, the objective circumstances of socio-economic development were recognized, which led to the popularity of the ideas of economic struggle in the labor movement. The second stage (the 1960’s – late 1980’s) is determined by the dominance of Lenin’s assessments of the IJWP ideology and activities. Lenin’s works became the main source of relevant publications in Soviet historiography. Much attention began to be paid to the Zionist component of the party’s ideology and its devastating criticism. Today, the introduction of a comprehensive view to the IJWP’s past is relevant. This view involves a study of this organization’s development, considering the socio-economic, cultural, and political situation in the Jewish environment. However, even today the activities of the IJWP are not given enough attention in scientific research. One of the reasons for this is the marginalization of this organization in Soviet historiography.uk
