This study explores a potential approach to derive the foundation for water-resistant coatings from red mud. The process involves annealing to remove the water-soluble components of the waste. The research demonstrates that the utilization of stearic acid as a water-repellent agent yields the highest contact angle of 143. The findings indicate that red mud could be a viable source for producing hierarchical systems capable of achieving hydrophobicity, in addition to the conventional particulate fillers.
