Computational Intelligence for Voice Call Security: Encryption and Mutual User Authentication(Springer, 2024-07-30) 5G networks receive more and more implementation in different countries of the world, and the appearance of new releases makes them perfect, more reliable, and more convenient for the user. At the same time, some aspects of security remain relevant from the past generations of networks. So, for voice traffic, encryption is performed only in participation to the base station. There is no possibility of end-to-end encryption between the endpoints and there is no reliable protection against an attack man-in-the-middle. In addition, the networks are given a lot of authentication attention, but when installing the call, only authentication of the device is carried out. At the same time, in some cases, mutual authentication does not occur, but only authentication by the user device. This work describes the solutions to ensure security in 5G networks, and an overview of existing threats has been made. In this work, a method of ensuring mutual authentication of users during the call is proposed. The proposed method is implemented by using biometric authentication and changes in the call flow. Another method proposed in this work is the use of end-to-end encryption during a call to increase user confidentiality. The proposed method is based on the use of an asymmetric protocol Diffie-Hellman for keys exchange and symmetric encryption to protect voice traffic. Also in the work, the main metrics of security for the mobile network are given and their improvement is evaluated when using the proposed methods. The proposed methods allow you to increase security metrics by ~ 20%.
