dc.description.abstractМетою статті є реконструкція видів нагрудного та стегнового одягу волинських міщан у першій половині XVI ст., включно з характеристикою поширених тоді матеріалів пошиття та оздоблення. Додатково, перевіря-лося припущення, що міський гардероб мав спільні риси з шляхетським та сільським гардеробом у залежності від матеріального становища волин-ського містянина. Вперше комплексно описано тканини та види натільного та стегнового вбрання волинських міщан литовської доби шляхом залучення накопиченої історіографії з історії одягу та згадок про одяг у рукописних судових актах Волині.
dc.description.abstractotherThe aim of this article is to reconstruct the chest and thigh clothing of Vol-hynian burghers during the first half of the 16th century, characterizing the ma-terials used in garment construction and their decorative variations. The study also examines the hypothesis that urban attire incorporated elements from both noble and rural wardrobes, contingent upon the socioeconomic status of Volhy-nian townspeople. The research employs methodological principles of historici-ty, relative objectivity, and a microhistorical approach. Specific methods include ource analysis, logical reconstruction, detailed description, comparative anal-ysis, and generalization.This research represents the first comprehensive examination in Ukrainian historiography of Volhynian burgher fabrics and undergarment types during the Lithuanian era, drawing upon existing historiographical sources and manu-script court records from Volhynia. Conclusion: In the first half of the 16th centu-ry, shirts and dresses — sharing a common nomenclature — served as primary undergarments for both men and women in Volhynia. However, lower garments differed by gender: men wore pants, while women utilized plakhtas and fartukhs.These clothing types were common across Volhynian social strata — towns-people, peasants, and nobility — with socioeconomic status distinguished by im-ported fabrics, embroidery, velvet decorations, and ornamental attachments that directly influenced a garment’s value. Undergarments were crafted from linen, local woolen cloth, or imported textiles, with colored London fabrics being par-ticularly fashionable.The findings provide enhanced insights into urban attire during the Grand Duchy of Lithuania era, revealing the sartorial interconnections between Volhy-nian urban, rural, and noble populations.
