dc.description.abstractУ статті аналізується внесок провідних польських учених, краєзнавців, аматорів, письменників, громадських та релігійних діячів ХІХ–ХХ ст. в етнографічне вивчення України з погляду висвітлення календарної та обрядової культури українців. Підтверджено, що дослідники зібрали й опублікували значний масив первинних фольклорно-етнографічних записів матеріальної та духовної культури, які досі залишаються цінними для етнологічної науки.
dc.description.abstractotherThe article analyzes the ethnographic study of Ukraine by leading Polish scholars, local historians, amateurs, writers, poets, public and religious figures from the 19th — 21st centuries, focusing on the coverage of the Ukrainian cal-endar and ritual culture. A comprehensive review of the works of researchers who made the most significant contributions to studying Ukrainian tradition-al holiday practices of spring, summer, autumn, and winter cycles is presented, organized chronologically. Although the historiographical base of the studied issue is quite extensively represented, it is still insufficient for a complete cov-erage of the proposed topic. The article aims to analyze the state of recording, systematization, and study of the Ukrainian calendar and ritual culture, and to determine the uniformity in representing each annual cycle. The methodological basis of the article comprises methods of historiographical analysis, synthesis, and comparative-historical approach. The scientific novelty of the research lies in introducing new source material on traditional and contemporary Ukrainian calendar rituals, collected during the author’s field ethnographic expeditions from 1997–2023 in Ukraine and Poland (Northern Podlasie).The study notes that under the influence of Romantic ideas in the 19th cen-tury, Polish scholars’ interest in Ukrainian topics intensified, with many re-searchers being fascinated by the history, language, folklore, customs, and way of life of Ukrainians. H. Kołłątaj was one of the first to initiate ethno-graphic studies of Ukrainian territories, particularly Polissia. A. Czarnecki (Zoriан Dolenga-Khodakovsky) made a significant contribution to the study of Ukrainian spiritual culture, pioneering the foundations of documentation in folklore and ethnographic material collection. I. Lyubych-Chervinsky was a notable researcher of the Boyko region. Among renowned scholars, V. Pol made substantial contributions, studying the Carpathians, Volyn, and Polis-sia. Ukrainian themes were of particular interest to members of the «Ukraini-an school» of Polish literature (S. Goszczynski, M. Hosławski, M. Grabowski, Z. Fish, and others). The works of E. Rulikowski, a researcher of Right-Bank Ukraine, are noteworthy. A. Yaksa-Martsynkivsky compiled a comprehensive two-volume folklore and ethnographic work «Lud Ukraiński» on Ukrainian holiday customs and rituals. The central region of Ukraine attracted the ac-tive ethnographic material collector Yu. Moshynska. O. Kolberg published a significant scientific ethnographic work about Ukraine in 80 volumes. Nota-ble ethnographers studied various regions: L. Weigel, K. Mroczko, Yu. Shnay-der explored Pokuttia; R. Raynfus studied the Boyko region; Ya. Hofman re-searched Volyn, among others.It is demonstrated that Polish researchers have collected and published a substantial array of primary folklore and ethnographic records of material and spiritual culture, which remain valuable for ethnological science in studying Ukrainian calendar rituals. This sphere of spiritual culture has been and con-tinues to be relevant, presenting significant scientific, practical, and cognitive interest for both Ukrainian and foreign researchers. Their joint studies on this topical theme comprehensively contribute to consolidating the noble efforts of domestic and international Ukrainian studies, which is an important marker of strengthening the independent Ukrainian state.
