dc.description.abstractСтрокач Г.Ю.
Strokach H. Yu. Automation of Testing and Tuning of Coriolis Vibratory Gyroscope Components. – Qualifying scientific work on manuscript rights. Dissertation for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Specialty 151 – Automation and Computer-Integrated Technologies (15 – Automation and Instrumentation) – National Technical University of Ukraine "Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute", Kyiv, 2026. This dissertation addresses the urgent scientific and applied task of automating the tuning and balancing processes of Coriolis vibratory gyroscopes (CVG) with a metallic cylindrical resonator. Among other modern types of gyroscopes, CVGs form the basis of medium-accuracy class inertial systems, and their production has been established in Ukraine. Given the necessity of transitioning from single-unit to serial production, the problem of the imperfection of existing approaches to CVG testing and tuning arises. These approaches rely on automated testing and parameter adjustment, which are not time-optimized and fail to account for dynamic errors, particularly temperature drift during testing. In light of this, there is an acute scientific and applied need to improve the existing automation systems for CVG testing and tuning to minimize subjective influence, increase result accuracy, and reduce the duration of the device's manufacturing cycle. Due to resonator manufacturing imperfections, a split in the natural frequency occurs within it—known as frequency split. Testing the resonator for frequency split is conducted at various production stages to ensure timely detection and correction. The primary method for correcting the frequency split is the balancing procedure of the resonator within the sensing element, which involves the iterative measurement of the frequency split and the removal of unbalanced mass from the resonator. Since measuring the frequency split is a lengthy and frequently repeated process, improving the automation of such tests is highly relevant. The CVG control system relies on four operational loops: phase, amplitude, compensation, and quadrature. For stable operation, each of these loops requires proper tuning of the PID controller coefficients. Improving the accuracy and speed of the CVG control system parameter tuning process aims to optimize production and enhance the overall accuracy of the sensor. To achieve the most effective results, this work proposes and substantiates criteria and methods for the optimal synthesis of PID controller coefficients. For cases where physical balancing is impossible or insufficient, the three-mode control system incorporates an algorithm for automatic frequency split compensation. This compensation algorithm involves introducing an additional block into the control system structure (a fifth PID controller), which generates a signal to nullify the quadrature component at the output of the main controller. This approach minimizes the influence of temperature drift and stabilizes the frequency split value during the device's operation. The first chapter provides a detailed analysis of the current state of gyroscope test automation. It outlines the physical principles of CVG operation and control system modes: angular rate sensor mode, Whole Angle (integrating) Mode, and differential mode. The chapter pays special attention to a three-mode control system, which allows combining the advantages of all modes in a single device without modifying the hardware. The second chapter examines the mathematical aspects of various CVG control system components necessary for test automation. It presents a mathematical model of a cylindrical resonator based on a two-axis pendulum and details the calculation of natural frequencies for a cylindrical metallic resonator. The chapter also considers the mathematical aspects of CVG operating modes and analyzes signal demodulation methods used in CVG control systems. Furthermore, it describes the operation of a PID controller used in standing wave control loops and discusses standing wave generation systems, specifically the Phase-Locked Loop (PLL) and the oscillation amplitude controller. The third chapter describes the developed methods for tuning and testing CVG components. It details the automatic determination of the resonator's natural frequency and its frequency split. The section presents an existing method for measuring imbalance parameters (frequency split, angle of the unbalanced mass) and balancing the resonator based on the frequency response of the sensing element. Additionally, it introduces a balancing method based on standing wave rotation, aimed at improving the measurement of imbalance parameters and the process information model. The chapter explains the principles of tuning PID controllers for the control system and reviews existing PID controller tuning methods tested for automatic control loop tuning. To compensate for the residual frequency split (no more than 0.03 Hz), it demonstrates automatic frequency split compensation based on standing wave control. The fourth chapter highlights the results of experimental studies for the developed methods. It demonstrates automatic natural frequency measurement using the acoustic method at the initial stages of CVG manufacturing. The chapter provides the results of frequency split measurement and balancing achieved through the standing wave rotation method. In particular, it showcases the results of Q-factor mismatch measurement performed during standing wave rotation. The text also details the measurement results of the control system output signal in the angular rate sensor mode under different PID controller tuning methods. Finally, the author draws conclusions regarding the most effective methods applicable for various control system settings and presents simulation results for automatic frequency split compensation. The scientific novelty of the work lies in the fact that: 1. The research improves the automation system for CVG testing and tuning by enhancing the method for measuring the frequency split and imbalance parameters, as well as tuning the control system's PID controllers. 2. The study enhances the frequency split measurement method based on standing wave rotation, allowing for increased measurement accuracy and the accommodation of temperature drift during measurements. 3. The dissertation proposes and substantiates criteria and methods for the optimal tuning of the PID controller coefficients in the automated testing and tuning system. 4. TheStrokach H. Yu.
