The present paper sets out to explore the role of evocativeness in teaching remedial pronunciation to Ukrainian PhD students in mixed ability classes. We focus on tricky pronunciation cases of academic vocabulary. Special attention is paid to word stress, palatalization, devoicing, and basic intonation patterns, including, but not limited to questions and negation phonic contouring. Relevant useful online resources are also discussed.
