Анотація
The paper is aimed at analyzing prosodic and paralinguistic means’ interplay in sympathy utterances having the pragmatic aim of consolation. The author comes to the conclusion that prosodic means perform a leading role in relation to lexico-grammatical ones while realizing the meaning of consolation. The function of paralinguistic means is to intensify the prosody, helping the addressee explicitly define the utterance as a genuinely consoling one.
