Анотація
The paper represents the use of the ELAN software package for annotating critical co-speech gestures in the speech of German and Ukrainian politicians. The study develops a model for a two-way comparison and suggests that verbal and paraverbal means of expressing political criticism, depend, on the one hand, on the speaker’s individual characteristics (age, gender, social status, emotional state, rhetorical competence, etc.) and, on the other hand, have their own ethnic specificity and are determined by the cultural traditions of political criticism in the public discourse of Germany and Ukraine. The research shows that gestural accentuation is independent of the key critic-words, however we registered the use of gestures by politicians who point to the object of criticism, usually with the index finger or the open palm of the right hand.
