To determine the important application and development prospect of geographic information system (GIS) in water resources environmental monitoring. Object of research. Implementation of the geographic information system (GIS) for the assessment of the water resources quality. Subject of research. A set of theoretical and methodological provisions for assessment of water resources quality with the help of geographic information system (GIS). Research methods: systematic analysis of scientific and technical literature - to review the methods of GIS, scientific experiment and analysis, graphical – for visual analysis of the experimental results. Scientific novelty of the obtained results. The use of geographic information system to develop water resources management system, multi-graph layer management, so that the water resources management system bid farewell to the tedious and complex process, so as to be more efficient and convenient. Practical significance of the results. At present, water resources management has limitations and incompleteness. Through the addition of geographic information system layers and the import of information, automatic analysis, water resources management can be more refined. Convenient and efficient utilization in urban water resources management, hydrological management and other fields. It can also improve the water resource management system.uk
