Розкрито напрями та зміст наукової роботи викладачів і дисертантів УВУ, тематику навчальних курсів історичних дисциплін та їх актуальність у зазначений період. Виявлено та оцінено внесок наукової й видавничої діяльності цього навчального закладу для популяризації української історії та культури в умовах війни, що проявлявся в виданні наукових праць викладачів та докторантів, продовженні науково-дослідної роботи.uk
dc.description.abstractotherThe article presents the results of a study on the academic, teaching, and publishing activities of teachers at the Ukrainian Free University (UFU) in Prague during the Second World War. During this period, the UFU emerged as a key center of scientific life for Ukrainian emigration. Despite the challenging conditions of war, the academic staff continued to teach and educate a new generation of students, focusing on the history, archaeology, and culture of Ukraine. The article aims to investigate the academic, teaching, and publishing endeavors of UFU teachers from 1939 to 1945 and assess their contribution to the development of Ukrainian historical science. The research reveals that, despite the difficulties of the Second World War, the scholars at the Ukrainian Free University in Prague persevered in their academic pursuits. The research topics remained consistent, covering areas such as the ancient history of Ukraine, the religious situation of the XIV–XVI centuries, the Cossacks, the Ruin Period, and more. Notably, doctoral students at UFU actively contributed to the scholarly work alongside established historians, significantly enhancing scientific knowledge about Ukrainian history. An essential aspect of shaping future generations during this period was the promotion of historical science among students. UFU offered various courses in Ukrainian history, archaeology, ethnography, and culture, adapting course programs to the historical realities of the time. For instance, during the semester of 1939–1940, there were two courses on the history of Carpathian Ukraine.The war exerted a negative impact on scholars’ publishing activities. Financial difficulties and forced emigration posed challenges to regular publications of their research. Nevertheless, UFU historians and professors managed to publish their works, both within the university and internationally. Notably, the third volume of the Scientific Collection of the Ukrainian Free University was published during this period. The scholarly legacy of UFU academic staff from the Second World War contributes significantly to the historiography of Ukraine, offering valuable insights for researchers studying the country’s history objectively.uk
