dc.description.abstractMilitary actions caused significant destabilization of the educational process. Many students and teachers were forced to change their place of residence, some higher education institutions suffered from destruction. In these conditions, distance education became the only viable learning option under these circumstances. As a result, teachers and students had to quickly adjust to digital platforms, new communication formats, self-discipline, and independent work. In this context, foreign language was seen as a way to help students grow professionally, psychologically, and personally in addition to being a tool for learning. English language proficiency makes it possible to access advanced scientific knowledge, international courses, projects, internships, and grant programs – all of which are especially crucial during times of war. Innovative foreign language training of future engineers is based on a competency-based approach which involves the formation of a set of competencies: communicative, professional, intercultural, informational and strategic. One of the most effective approaches is CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning) which blends learning a foreign language with studying subject matter, especially technical content. Students can acquire professional vocabulary in a natural setting by using CLIL principles which greatly enhances the learning experience.
