Стверджується, що міжкультурні комунікації етнічних, релігійних, станових спільнот розгорталися в освітніх установах, закладах культури, громадських організаціях, завдячуючи пресовим виданням. З’ясовується роль у трансформаціях культурного повсякдення Умані імперської влади, міського самоврядування, інтелігенції міста. Зауважується, що в пульсації культурного простору проглядалась як цілісність, так і сегментованість.uk
dc.description.abstractotherThe article aims to examine the cultural landscape of Uman by analysing the communication practices among town residents. These practices occurred in various settings, including educational institutions, libraries, printing houses, bookstores, public associations, and mass media. The evolution of these communication practices is explored within the context of urban multiculturalism, the adoption of the imperial model of cultural behaviour, and the strengthening of municipal government and town community positions. The educational and cultural space is characterized by both unity and segmentation. The research methodology is based on general scientific principles and historicism, utilizing problem-chronological, historical-comparative, prosopographic, and statistical methods. The article investigates the structural components of the cultural space, such as educational institutions, cultural establishments, and public organizations, examining their connections with the town community. Noteworthy is the Uman City Duma’s role in addition to the state’s involvement in developing the educational network and supporting cultural institutions and public organizations. Drawing on data from the 1897 All-Russian census, the article attempts to determine the quantitative parameters of Uman’s urban intelligentsia, which comprises over 600 individuals, slightly exceeding 2% of the town’s population. The article emphasizes the influence of public organizations in shaping Uman’s cultural space, identifying approximately three dozen voluntary societies before the First World War. It also acknowledges the national stance of Polish organizations and the cohesiveness of Jewish societies. In contrast, the public activity of the Ukrainian intelligentsia was in its early stages and primarily manifested through informal contacts. The transformations in Uman’s cultural space in the early twentieth century involved broad participation from town residents, resulting in a multifaceted approach.uk
