Анотація
Going beyond the heated discussion about the necessity of feedback on writing, the aims of the
study were twofold: to investigate students’ and English instructors’ beliefs about feedback on writing and
examine whether there is a match or mismatch between them. In the light of the questionnaire data, the
study revealed that there are both matches and mismatches between English instructors’ and students’
beliefs about error correction and feedback practices on writing. The study suggests some useful
implications for teacher education programs and educational institutions. As a result of both qualitative
and quantitative analyses in the study, it came to a conclusion that there is match between English
instructors’ and students’ beliefs about the accuracy of writing and giving/receiving feedback on grammar,
spelling, organization of the paper, and ideas. In short, these findings add substantially to our
understanding of feedback on writing in Turkish English as a foreign language (EFL) teaching context.
The results proved that instructors and their beliefs had a crucial role for students to develop conceptual
understanding of feedback. In the light of these findings, English instructors can tailor their methods of
teaching and their way of giving feedback in order to maximize the efficiency of the feedback. As for
students, they need to make conscious efforts to make sure that they literally receive the feedback by
noticing it so that they can turn these corrections into uptake.
