Анотація
The article investigates the impact of artificial intelligence, in particular ChatGPT, on the process of teaching English to law students at universities. The possibilities of using ChatGPT to improve students’ language skills, such as understanding legal terminology, developing critical thinking, argumentation, writing and communication, have been considered. Examples of integration of ChatGPT into the structure of classes, in particular at the stages of ‘warming up,’ reading and writing, have been analysed, and its role as a virtual tutor has been outlined. The aim of the study is to identify effective ways to integrate ChatGPT into the teaching of English to law students, to develop recommendations for teachers and students on its optimal use, and to find ways to overcome potential challenges. Particular attention has been paid to the advantages of using ChatGPT, such as individualised learning, access to a large amount of information and feedback. The authors have described the methods by which ChatGPT can facilitate the creation of simulations of legal discussions, simulated court hearings and legal writing. At the same time, the risks have explored, including the generation of false information, the possibility of student abuse, and challenges to academic integrity. The article has offered recommendations for teachers on the effective use of ChatGPT in the educational process, including the creation of tasks that promote creativity and critical thinking, as well as methods for detecting cases of plagiarism. The article has focused on writing an argumentative essay using ChatGPT as a support tool that allows students to go through all the stages of creating an essay: from brainstorming and researching a topic to editing the final text. ChatGPT promotes the development of precise questioning skills, critical thinking and analytical abilities, helping students to create structured and reasoned essays. The authors have emphasised that the integration of ChatGPT promotes innovation in the learning of English by law students, but requires appropriate training for both students and teachers to overcome possible challenges.
