The article explores the significance and evolution of modern corpus linguistics, emphasizing its scientific and educational relevance. It outlines how corpus linguistics involves the study of large, electronically stored text collections (corpora) to analyze real-world language use. The article highlights the importance of corpus design, including considerations of size, balance, and representativeness. It discusses how corpus-based methods address limitations of traditional English teaching by offering more empirical and context-based insights. Influential figures like John Sinclair are cited, noting the value of word sequences over isolated meanings. The article also emphasizes the role of technology in expanding the scope and precision of corpus studies, allowing for advanced data organization, pattern analysis, and reporting. Computational tools enable researchers to analyze grammatical and lexical features across various registers and contexts. It also explores the benefits of using subcorpora and the application of both qualitative and quantitative methods for reliable linguistic analysis. Overall, the article positions corpus linguistics as a modern, technology-driven discipline that enhances linguistic theory and supports more effective language instruction, especially in professional and academic settings. It concludes that diverse methodological approaches within corpus linguistics offer valuable opportunities for refining language education and research.
