| dc.description.abstracten | The master's thesis consists of an introduction, three chapters, conclusions to each of them, general conclusions and a list of used sources, which includes 74 items. The total volume of work is 112 pages. The volume of the main part is 93 pages. The rapid development of technologies in the biotechnological field, constant discussion at the global level inevitably require the correct translation of scientific and technical texts of the biotechnological field in general and terms in particular, taking into account structural-semantic and functional-pragmatic features. Today, the international biotechnological industry is gaining special relevance, which leads to the emergence of new and improvement of existing terms to denote various concepts, realities, processes, phenomena. Accordingly, there is an urgent need for a scrupulous study of the linguistic and translational features of such specialized units. Terminology is not a chaotic collection of words, but a special system of names organized at the linguistic and logical level. Despite the differences and diversity of the branches of modern scientific knowledge and their inherent concepts, there are still a number of common features that determine the nature of the term as a special linguistic unit: 1) systematicity: each term is part of a terminological system in which it has its own unique meaning and can have a completely different meaning outside its terminological system; 2) accuracy: the term should convey the meaning of the concept to which it refers as fully and accurately as possible, inaccurate terminology can become a source of misunderstandings between specialists; 3) striving for unambiguity within the limits of one's terminological system: if most words in common language are ambiguous, then most terms are unambiguous, this is due to their purpose, but ambiguity (most often ambiguity) cannot be completely eliminated; 4) availability of a definition: every scientific term has a definition (meaning), which clearly outlines and limits its meaning. Some terminologists also name such characteristics (or signs) of the term as: brevity, neutrality, lack of emotional and expressive coloring, lack of synonyms, international character, dynamism and openness of the system, which is manifested in terminological processes, de- and re-terminologizing, continuous restoration of the system with new ones terms; clarity of the internal form of the term, which improves its perception and preservation in the term system. Terminology performs such basic functions as defining scientific concepts and improving the communication needs of specialists - provided that the terminology is generally accepted, standardized, and will meet the requirements for terms. A special field of functioning of the terminology is the language of the field of biotechnology. Under the influence of technical and scientific progress, the terminological vocabulary penetrates deeply into the functional and stylistic varieties of the modern language. This leads to the need to study new linguistic phenomena associated with the emergence of specialized units beyond the boundaries of the language of science. The topicality of the dissertation is determined by the need to analyze the structural features of biotechnological terms, to find out exactly how many words can be part of one term. The relevance is also dictated by the insufficient number of studies examining English biotechnological terminology at the current stage of its development, leading strategies for translating its units. The object of the study is the lexical units of the English-language terminological system of the field of biotechnology. The subject of the study is the structural-grammatical and lexical-semantic features of the translation of English biotechnological terms into Ukrainian. The purpose of the work is a comprehensive study of a special layer of English vocabulary - pharmaceutical terminology and the leading strategies of its translation into Ukrainian. The set goal implies the need to solve the following research tasks: 1. Consider modern approaches to defining the concept of "term"; 2. To highlight the structural features of terms in the field of biotechnology; 3. Classify the terms of the field of biotechnology according to semantic features; 4. To single out the pragmatic functions of biotechnology terms; 5. Define functional and pragmatic categories of terms; 6. To find out the peculiarities of the reproduction of the pragmatics of English terms when translated into Ukrainian; 7. To characterize the structure and semantics of English terms in the field of biotechnology; 8. Determine the pragmatic functions of English terms in the field of biotechnology; 9. To analyze the main means of preserving the pragmatics of English-language terms in the field of biotechnology. Research methods. The purpose and specific tasks of the work require the use of various research methods. The method of linguistic description with its universal techniques of observation, semanticization, and interpretation of linguistic facts was chosen as the main method. The work also uses the comparative method, elements of component analysis, and the method of quantitative characteristics. The use of a set of these methods contributes to the comprehensive study of terminological units. The scientific originality of the work consists in the development of a comprehensive methodology for the study of the concept of "the term of the field of biotechnology". Not only the structural features of the term are considered, but also its internal content structure. The theoretical significance of the study lies in the definition of structural and semantic features of English-language biotechnological terminology. The conducted analysis makes it possible to determine the formal structure of the biotechnological term, its linguistic affiliation. This study allows us to expand our understanding of the functioning of the analyzed lexical units in modern English and the patterns of their translation into Ukrainian. The practical significance of the work is determined by the fact that the material of the work can be used in the development of teaching aids in the courses of stylistics and lexicology of the English language, in the theory and practice of translation, in lexicographic practice. The structure of the work corresponds to the purpose and solution of the main tasks of the research. In accordance with the set goal and objectives, the work consists of an introduction, three sections, conclusions, and a list of references. Approbation of research results. The main provisions and research results of the master's thesis were presented at the XXIII International scientific and practical online conference "Science and Technology of the XXI Century" (November 10, 2022, Kyiv, 2nd online session). Загальний обсяг роботи – 112 сторінок. Обсяг основної частини – 93 сторінки. Стрімкий розвиток технологій в біотехнологічній сфері, постійне обговорення на глобальному рівні неминуче потребують коректного перекладу науково-технічних текстів біотехнологічної галузі взагалі та термінів зокрема з урахуванням структурно-семантичних і функційно-прагматичних особливостей. Нині міжнародна біотехнологічна галузь набуває особливої актуальності, що зумовлює появу нових і вдосконалення наявних термінів на позначення різноманітних понять, реалій, процесів, явищ. Відповідно постає нагальна потреба скрупульозного дослідження лінгвістичних і перекладацьких особливостей таких фахових одиниць. Актуальність теми дослідження. Термінологія — це не хаотична сукупність слів, а особлива система назв, упорядкована на мовно-логічному рівні. Незважаючи на відмінності та різноманіття галузей сучасного наукового знання та властивих їм понять, все ж існує ряд спільних рис, що визначають характер терміна як особливої лінгвістичної одиниці: 1) систематичність: кожен термін є частиною термінологічної системи, в якій має своє унікальне значення та може мати зовсім інше значення за межами своєї термінологічної системи; 2) точність: термін має якомога повніше та точніше передавати значення поняття, до якого він відноситься, неточна термінологія може стати джерелом непорозумінь між фахівцями; 3) прагнення до однозначності у межах своєї терміносистеми: якщо більшість слів загальновживаної мови багатозначні, то більшість термінів – однозначні, це зумовлено їх призначенням, але повністю усунути багатозначність (найчастіше двозначність) не вдається; 4) наявність дефініції: кожний науковий термін має дефініцію (означення), яка чітко окреслює, обмежує його значення. Деякі термінознавці також називають такі характеристики (або ознаки) до терміна як: стислість, нейтральність, відсутність емоційно-експресивного забарвлення, відсутність синонімів, інтернаціональний характер, динамічність і відкритість системи, що проявляється у термінологічних процесах, де- і ретермінологізації, безперервному відновлювання системи новими термінами; ясність внутрішньої форми терміна, яка вдосконалює його сприйняття і збереження у терміносистемі. Термінологія виконує такі основні функції як визначення наукових понятть і вдосконалення потреби спілкування фахівців – за умови, якщо термінологія є загальноприйнята, унормована, та буде відповідати вимогам до термінів. Особлива галузь фукнціонування термінології – мова сфери біотехнологій. Під впливом технічно-наукового прогресу термінологічна лексика глибоко проникає у функціональні та стильові різновиди сучасної мови. Це призводить до необхідності вивчення нових мовних явищ, пов’язаних із виходом спеціалізованих одиниць за межі мови науки. Актуальність цього дослідження зумовлена необхідністю проаналізувати структурні особливості біотехнологічних термінів, виявити, яка саме кількість слів може входити до складу одного терміна. Актуальність продиктована також недостатньою кількістю досліджень, що розглядають англійську біотехнологічну термінологію на сучасному етапі її розвитку, провідні стратегії перекладу її одиниць. Об'єктом дослідження є лексичні одиниці англомовної терміносистеми сфери біотехнології. Предметом дослідження є структурно-граматичні і лексико-семантичні особливості перекладу англійських біотехнологічних термінів українською мовою. Метою роботи є комплексне дослідження особливого пласта лексики англійської мови – фармацевтичної термінології та провідних стратегій її перекладу українською мовою. Поставлена мета передбачає необхідність вирішення наступних завдань дослідження: 1. Розглянути сучасні підходи до визначення поняття «термін»; 2. Виділити структурні особливості термінів галузі біотехнологій; 3. Класифікувати терміни галузі біотехнологій за семантичною ознакою; 4. Виокремити прагматичні функції термінів біотехнологій; 5. Визначити функціонально-прагматичні розряди термінів; 6. З’ясувати особливості відтворення прагматики англомовних термінів при перекладі українською; 7. Охарактеризувати структуру й семантику англомовних термінів сфери біотехнологій; 8. Визначити прагматичні функції англомовних термінів сфери біотехнологій; 9. Проаналізувати основні засоби збереження прагматики англомовних термінів сфери біотехнологій. Методи дослідження. Основним методом було обрано лінгвістичний опис та його універсальні прийоми семантизації, інтерпретації, спостереження мовних фактів. В роботі наявний також зіставний метод, компонентний аналіз та його елементи, метод кількісної характеристики. Сукупність вищезазначених методів призвело до комплексного дослідженню термінологічних одиниць. Наукова новизна роботи полягає в розробці комплексної методики дослідження поняття «термін сфери біотехнології». Розглядаються не тільки особливості структури терміна, але і його змістова внутрішня структура. Теоретична значимість дослідження полягає у визначенні структурних і семантичних особливостей англомовної біотехнологічної термінології. Проведений аналіз дає можливість визначити формальну структуру біотехнологічного терміна, його частиномовну приналежність. Дане дослідження дозволяє розширити уявлення про функціонування аналізованих лексичних одиниць у сучасній англійській мові та закономірності їх перекладу українською мовою. Практична цінність роботи обумовлена тим, що матеріал роботи може бути використаний при розробці навчальних посібників в курсах стилістики та лексикології англійської мови, в теорії і практиці перекладу, в лексикографічній практиці. Структура роботи відповідає меті та розв’язанню основних завдань дослідження. Відповідно до поставленої мети і завдань робота складається зі вступу, трьох розділів, висновків, списку літератури. Апробація результатів дослідження. Основні положення та результати дослідження магістерської дисертації було представлено на ХХІІІ Міжнародній науково-практичній онлайн конференції “Science and Technology of the XXI Century” (10 листопада 2022 р., м.Київ, 2-га онлайнова сесія).
