A.; Tuliakova, K. R.Academic integrity is essential in higher education, shaping students’ ethical values and preparing them for professional success. Upholding honesty and integrity fosters a culture of respect, collaboration, and intellectual growth. Research on academic integrity emphasizes the need to address ethical breaches and adapt to technological advancements that pose new challenges. Universities play a key role in promoting academic integrity by providing practical experiences and proactive approaches. Extra-curricular activities, like interdisciplinary conferences, complement formal curricula by enhancing leadership, communication, and critical thinking skills while instilling ethical conduct. Events such as the international student conferences at National Technical University of Ukraine foster academic integrity and language proficiency. Statistical data collected annually by the organizing committee to present it to the educational community and use for developing algorithms on improving the quality of submissions and measures to promote and cultivate the academic integrity. The statistical data from 2018–2022 in the current paper shows a decline in plagiarism submissions, indicating the effectiveness of chosen approaches and implemented measures. However, the statistics from 2023 reveals brand-new challenges like violations related to artificial intelligence highlight the need for ongoing efforts. In addition, a survey for revealing students perceptions towards artificial intelligence is conducted. Student attitudes towards AI suggest a positive disposition, calling for a balanced approach to integrating technology while upholding academic integrity rather than prohibiting its use. It is essential for institutions to navigate the integration of AI ethically, ensuring a harmonious relationship between technological advances and academic standards.Документ Відкритий доступ Artificial Intelligence for Language Teaching and Learning(2023) Shevchenko, О. L.Дана стаття містить огляд деяких інноваційних методів вивчення іноземної мови з використанням сучасних технологій на основі штучного інтелекту, таких як система Google Translate і ChatGPT. Використання Google Translate і ChatGPT трансформувало метод викладання і вивчення іноземних мов. Система Google Translate – це безкоштовний онлайн-інструмент перекладу, який використовує штучний інтелект для перекладу тексту з однієї мови на іншу. Завдяки машинному навчанню ця система стала більш ефективною та універсальною. Використання системи Google Translate набуло популярності серед студентів ESL (англійська як друга мова), які часто перекладають великі обсяги фахових текстів. Крім цього, Google Translate може також виконувати роль помічника в процесі навчання мови, пропонуючи викладачу нові інструменти та можливості. Розширені функції Google Translate можуть допомогти тим, хто вивчає мову, осягнути свої реальні та потенційні помилки, покращити знання мови, яка вивчається, а також покращити свої аналітичні навички. Ще одна інноваційна технологія, зазначена в цій роботі, це Chat GPT. Це чат-бот зі штучним інтелектом, який використовується для взаємодії з користувачем у реальному часі. ChatGPT може забезпечити індивідуальне вивчення мови відповідно до мети та рівня студента. Спілкуючись зі штучним інтелектом, студенти можуть практикувати й покращувати свій рівень граматики, словниковий запас і фонетичні навички. ChatGPT може надати миттєвий зворотний зв’язок, дозволяючи студентам виправляти помилки в реальному часі. ChatGPT може моделювати реальні ситуації, дозволяючи студентам практикувати свої мовні навички на практиці. Як мовна модель штучного інтелекту, ChatGPT має потенціал для подальшого розвитку для використання у сфері викладання та вивчення мов. У майбутньому ChatGPT може стати ефективним інструментом у практиці викладання і вивчення іноземних мов, покращуючи навички мовлення, читання та письма студентів і надаючи їм можливість миттєвого зворотнього зв’язку мовою, яку вони вивчають.Документ Відкритий доступ Balancing participation in foreign language classes with the communicative approach: addressing dominance and passivity(Видавнича група «Наукові перспективи», 2024) Kornytska, Yuliia Anatolyivna; Haidenko, Yuliia OleksiivnaThe communicative approach is widely recognized as one of the most effective methods for ESL training, enhancing both individual learner autonomy and group interaction skills through discussions, role-playing, and collaborative projects. This method encourages learners to set personal goals, make decisions, and self-regulate, promoting independent and critical thinking, thus supporting both language acquisition and personal development. Despite its advantages, the communicative approach poses challenges, particularly in managing uneven participation where dominant students overshadow their introverted peers, affecting class atmosphere and communicative competence. This study aims to investigate and address these challenges by identifying effective strategies to balance participation, creating a more inclusive and supportive learning environment. A comprehensive literature analysis was conducted to understand the reasons behind dominant and passive behaviours, their impact on class dynamics, and strategies to address them. Key findings suggest that confidence levels, prior educational experiences, and personality traits significantly influence student behaviour. Effective strategies identified include structured group activities with role assignments, mutual support agreements, regularly changing group compositions, and clear criteria for oral comments. These strategies aim to mitigate the dominance of active students while encouraging contributions from quieter members, fostering a collaborative learning environment. Data were collected through systematic observations and surveys in ESP classes at the National Technical University of Ukraine. Statistical analyses assessed changes in student engagement, revealing a more balanced participation rate by the end of the study. The results demonstrate the effectiveness of the implemented strategies in enhancing educational outcomes and improving class dynamics. Despite research limitations, this study contributes to the ongoing discourse on effective ESL training practices, offering practical solutions for educators to manage diverse classroom dynamics.Документ Відкритий доступ Basic Principles and Limitations of Neural Machine Translation(Східноєвропейський національний університет ім. Лесі Українки, 2022) Shevchenko, Olga; Ogurtsova, OlgaThe article describes some problems of Neural Machine Translation (NMT) and the role of neural networks in the translation process. The mechanism of neural machine translation, its specific features, its differences from other machine translation systems and the system limitations are also analyzed. NMT systems use artificial neural networks that are trained on a large number of pairs of parallel sentences (‘parallel corpora’). These networks can read a word or a sentence in the source language and translate them into a target language. However, word matching and breakdown into phrases is no longer needed . This seems to be the main difference between the NMT system and other machine translation systems, such as Rule-based or Statistical MT. In order to create a NMT system one must provide the availability of several million pairs of sentences translated by human translators All modern NMTsystems are equipped with encoder-decoder and ‘attention’ mechanisms. The unique role of the ‘attention’ mechanism is to predict subsequent words during the translation process. While focusing on one or more words of the original sentence, it adds this information to the encoded full text. This process is similar to the behavior of a human translator who first reads the entire sentence and then looks at individual source words and phrases already translated or yet to be translated. In spite of its advantages, like fluency, NMT systems have a number of drawbacks. The most frequent are adequacy errors, as well as omissions and additions of content. Transfer of semantic content from the source to the target language often produces mistranslations. A.The article examines the students’ participation in international students conferences in general and based on the example of the annual conference in particular, which is organized and conducted by the Department of English for Humanities of the Faculty of Linguistics of the National Technical University of Ukraine «Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute». The analysis of the International Student Conference «Ukrainian and Foreign Science: Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow» shows that the participation in such conferences has an important developmental, technological and social significance for the training of future specialists of technical and humanitarian profiles. Participating in international students conferences affords students valuable opportunities to learn from other students as well as to share their work with others; to network and establish long-term collaborative relationships with like-minded peers. The present paper is focused on the role of international students conferences in professional development and public speaking. The findings of the study present evidence that participation in international conferences provides students with an opportunity to develop their critical thinking, their writing, reading, speaking and listening skills; help them to be more confident. Our paper describes the stages of organization international students conferences, the specific features of each stage, the possible issues and solutions. O.This article delves into the linguistic and extralinguistic aspects of color names, focusing on the universal elements of color symbolism and their representation in phraseological units. The study draws on the works of renowned linguists and researchers, exploring the historical and cultural dimensions of color perception. The research aims to compare and establish symbolic meanings of the achromatic colors ‘black’ and ‘white’ in English and Ukrainian, shedding light on the linguistic intricacies within phraseological units. Employing theoretical analysis and comparative research methods, the study uncovers the cultural nuances and variations in interpreting these color terms, offering insights into the diverse ways different societies conceptualize and express meanings through language. The research emphasizes the linguistic and extralinguistic dimensions of color names, striving to identify similarities and differences in the symbolic meanings of black and white in the two languages. As of today, linguistics lacks a systematic approach to lexical units with color names. However, a consensus among many scholars suggests that phraseological unit with color name is inherently emotionally charged; it not only denotes a color but also seeks to express our attitude towards it. The analysis of the examined material indicates that color can be explicitly expressed (through direct naming of the color or an attribute associated with the color) and implicitly (by naming an object whose color characteristic is embedded in daily life or culture as a tradition). The designation of color in the contemporary linguistic worldview is influenced by various factors: cultural-historical, sociopolitical, individual-psychophysiological, and artistic-expressive. The representation of color is conditioned by the traditions of the language-speaking community. This comprehensive study significantly contributes to the broader discourse on color semantics, enriching our comprehension of the subtle intricacies embedded in linguistic expressions related to color symbolism. It is noted that the effectiveness of a lawyer's activity depends on his ability to quickly and clearly respond to practical problems, professionally solve them, analyze and evaluate them. The skills and abilities that each person acquires in the process of learning, and then improves the flow of life - to be able to ask relevant questions, build proofs, draw analogies, put forward hypotheses, explain are presented. It is emphasized that "Critical thinking" is an individual's ability to unbiasedly know and feel the surrounding reality, to go beyond traditional frameworks and possibilities of world perception. Among such approaches, an important role is played by teamwork of students on various tasks, projects, the subject of which is related to real professional activity. All advantages of teamwork are considered: formation of self-confidence due to receiving support and positive evaluation from other team members; preparing students for further professional activities, their ability to solve complex tasks; searching and finding creative and innovative solutions to a complex problem; encouraging students to think critically, to listen to each other; development of professional and global skills, such as conflict resolution and negotiation skills, communication skills. The need to shift emphasis in favor of soft skills in the process of teaching law students has been determined. The most in-demand skills of the future have been summarized, which also include presentation skills that contribute to the development of creativity, successful teamwork and critical thinking. Justifying the importance of the formation of soft skills in the process of learning English, the role of presentation as a powerful educational tool has been discussed. The essence of the concept of "presentational skills of future lawyers" has been determined and their classification has been presented. A method of two-stage formation of presentation skills of undergraduate law students has been proposed. Навички тайм-менеджменту визначаються як здібності, які дозволяють максимально ефективно використовувати свої можливості під час навчання. Здійснено узагальнення проблем адаптації студентів-першокурсників у новому освітньому середовищі з урахуванням дистанційного навчання. У статті наведено базові складові time management, які повинні працювати комплексно: 1) фіксація реалістичних цілей – довгострокових і короткострокових; 2) організація часу та речей; 3) делегування; 4) релаксація; 5) боротьба з почуттям провини. Досліджено основний компонент тайм-менеджменту – постановка цілей, яка має вирішальне значення для особистого успіху. Обґрунтовано необхідність аналізу свого часу за допомогою таблиць, де студентами складаються довгострокові та короткострокові цілі. Даний поділ дозволяє студентам зорієнтуватися в множині своїх цілей та завдань, визначити пріоритети та стратегію поставлених цілей. У статті обґрунтовано необхідність формування навичок організації речей, та з’ясовано значення делегування відповідальності, під час якої студент може передати вирішення менш значних проблем і відповідальність своїм одногрупникам. Визначено основні завдання релаксації, уточнено поняття «боротьба з почуттям провини» як одного із найскладніших складових time management. В статті також акцентовано увагу на основних перешкодах успішного тайм-менеджменту – прокрастинації та перфекціонізмі. Особливу увагу приділено методам тайм менеджменту, які допомагають студентам ефективно планувати свій час. Продемонстровано можливості розвитку навичок time management за допомогою двоетапного майстер-класу для студентів першого курсу. Теоретична частина проходить на сервісі для організації онлайн-занять, під час якої відбувається ознайомлення студентів із сутністю time management. Special attention is paid to the analysis of the concept of "soft skills" and the importance of these skills in the modern world. The stages of working with the text based on the technology of the flipped class when the above-mentioned communication skills are formed have been considered. Such stages as the introductory stage, the stage of familiarization with the text, the stage of semanticization, the stage of training, the stage of consolidation, and the stage of control have been distinguished.
